Weekend Respite Camp

Come join the fun at camp even during the winter and spring months! Camp Cheerful offers Weekend Respite Sessions one weekend of every month from September to May at our Strongsville location. Campers and counselors come together to socialize and participate in exciting themed weekends. It is a wonderful chance to re-connect with old camp friends and make new friends.

Remember that Camp Cheerful is an IO Waiver and Level 1 Waiver service provider.

The fees below include food, lodging, and programming at Camp Cheerful from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. The following weekends are offered to campers ages seven and over, including adults.

Sports Weekend

This weekend we will be treated to a wonderful Wheelchair Cavaliers Celebrity basketball game at University of Akron’s Rhodes Arena on Saturday, September 26, 2009.  The campers will enjoy the game and have the opportunity to meet various celebrities, the Cavaliers dance team, and other special guests!!

Around the World Weekend

Traveling around the world can be hard…unless we bring the world to you.  See and hear all the sights and sounds of foreign lands from your very own Camp Cheerful.  Camp will be decked out with the flag of each country, and we will celebrate their customs and fashion styles.

December 11-13, 2009 ($200.00) Holiday Weekend

Holidays are a time for celebrating, and that’s exactly what we are going to do at Camp Cheerful as we try and fill the weekend with as many different holiday celebrations and traditions as possible! Christmas, Valentines Day, perhaps your very own “un-birthday” party…the possibilities are endless!!

January 8-10, 2010 ($200.00) Decade Weekend

Camp Cheerful goes back in time and relives some exciting decades! Campers will enjoy learning about the music, entertainment and fashions of the 1950’s, 1960’s, and1970’s.

February 5-7, 2010 ($200.00) Tropical Getaway Weekend

Tired of the snow?  Greet us with your Hawaiian shirts as we drift away to Camp Cheerful Bay.   Activities will help us remember those golden summer days even if only for a few days.

March 12-14, 2010 ($250.00) Horsemanship Weekend

During this weekend session, you will be assigned to a horse and have the opportunity to go for a horseback trail ride (weather permitting), participate in fun classroom horse activities, learn proper equine grooming and bathing techniques, learn basic horse leading skills, and participate in a contest decorating and finger-painting your horse.  The Achievement Centers for Children’s Camp Cheerful Therapeutic Riding Program is a Premier Accredited Center Program, accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).  Camp Cheerful is one of only 10 centers in Ohio providing quality professional equine-assisted activities while meeting established industry standards.

April 16-18, 2010 ($200.00) Hollywood Weekend

Do you have a passion for singing, dancing, or acting? Come showcase your inner celebrity as we celebrate different Hollywood characters and themes. Show off your hidden talent during the Camp Cheerful Talent Show.

May 14-16, 2010 ($250.00) High Ropes Weekend

Come on out and enjoy a climb on the High Ropes Course!  During this weekend, campers will have the chance to experience the various course elements.  Campers can be hoisted 35 feet in the air on the Giant Swing, climb to the top of the Tango Tower, and experience the thrill of speeding down the 420 foot zip line.  The entire weekend will be dedicated to learning and experiencing the high ropes course.
