Michael-Intensive-Therapy

Michael, 5 years old, had a diagnosis of hyptonia (low muscle tone involving muscle strength), and had made some gains in traditional therapy, but was still weak and behind in gross motor skills. Michael’s family was concerned about Michael being unable to navigate his school environment and keep up with his peers. His goal in his Intensive Therapy Clinic at Achievement Centers, was to build his strength and coordination to be able to climb stairs, both up and down.

Michael came for an Intensive Therapy Clinic three hours each day for one week. Here he was able to focus on a variety activities to strengthen his legs including use of the Universal Exercise Unit and Therasuit. He also enjoyed Adapted Aquatics class during the week. At the end of his session, Michael alternated up steps, increased his endurance, and confidence, ultimately resulting in no need for alternate arrangements for classroom participation.
